urgent requirement Unix Migration specialist with RBS

There is an urgent requirement for Migration Unix/Linus Ananlyst for one of the Clients

Our Client Global IT business caters to more than 150 global Fortune 500 clients across financial services, retail, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare services, energy and utilities, technology, telecom and media. We employ over 120,000 people from over 70 nationalities and 72 plus global delivery centers across 5 continents.

They are looking for
This Role will require weekend working (average 2 weekend days per month).

As part of the Strategic Data Centre Programme, we are looking for a Unix/Linux system administrator to assist a high profile Project to migrate production Unix/Linux servers between data centres. He/she must have experience of a large scale data centre move/migration within an investment banking environment.
Typical tasks:
• Document and define the Unix/Linux approach and requirements for refresh, swing and lift and shift migrations
• Ensure RBS best practice is applied
• Ensure that the correct process is followed and contribute to improving existing processes
• Analyse core infrastructure requirements i.e. Autosys, NTP, Netbackup, Jumpstart etc
•Identify High Risk and Low Risk kit and plan accordingly
•Attend migration workshops to gather information and understand requirements fully as well as raising concerns / issues with the application teams
•Analysis and planning of migration to ensure contingency plans are not affected by the migration
•Produce transition plans and story boards where required as part of an overall schedule of events
•Investigate application dependencies and identify migration priorities
•Working with other teams (App Dev, BAU etc) to ensure smooth planning and implementation
•Arranging handover to BAU support teams (agreeing and documenting per migration requirements)
•For hardware refresh - Manage equipment purchases, installation, build and configuration work through to Application Development testing, handover and sign off
•For swing kit – identify where swing kit is required and as above manage to App Dev sign off
•For lift and shift – Hands on to move kit successfully.
•For virtual migrations – Support the ESX/Linux components of P2V and V2V migrations using manual copy/configuration methods where appropriate.
•Documentation – Clear documentation needs to be produced pre and post migration
•Problem ownership, with escalation as and when required

Migration weekend activities:
•Physical, Virtual and P2V migration activities
•Environment / site knowledge
•Working with Network Team for IP changes
•Working with Vendors and engineers to troubleshoot issues
•Resolve any OS issues/working with App Dev to ensure post migration issues are identified and resolved
•Remediation activities such as SAN stack upgrades.

Essential Skills
• Previous experience of working for an investment bank.
• Previous experience of working as a Unix/Linux Analyst on large Data centre Project
• Linux and Solaris Server administration skills including configuration and problem identification/resolution
•Solaris, Linux and ESX SAN connectivity, configuration and problem identification/resolution – EMC and 3Par
•Networking protocols and infrastructure
•TCP/IP, UDP, NFS, DNS, NIS, LDAP, NTP, DHCP
•Layered products such as VxVM, VCS, and NetBackup
•Sun Hardware
•HP Hardware
•VMWare
•Solaris zones / containers
•BCP awareness
